Jumblat and the Shifting Sands of the Middle East (Jumblat‪)‬

Druze Chieftain and MP Walid Jumblat appears to be having difficulty in charting his own course since he defected from the anti-Syrian March 14 coalition last year. As illustrative of the fallout from his changing political positions, some news reports say Jumblat (61) has had an unpublicized falling out with his ally, MP and former minister, Marwan Hamadeh over differences in policy. Hamadeh, also a Druze, reportedly believes Jumblat has a lot of explaining to do in order to justify his dramatic policy shift from being a harsh critic of Syria and its allies to being a friend.
