Insightful & Interesting

I throughly enjoy this book and it came at the perfect time in my life. I am nearly 5 months into a relationship and this book has really changed the way I think and feel about communicating not only with my man but all men in my life. It certainly explains so much and also makes so much sense and gives incredible insight into the way men think about communicating with women.

Absolutely recommend giving this book a read!

Have to be a pushover to take his advice

I stopped reading once I reach about 60 pages in. I was actually quite interested in this book but regret settled in within a few pages. I just want to start this off by saying, men and women are biologically different but we’re fundamentally the same. We all experience sadness, anger, happiness, regret ect. We all have wants and needs; regardless of gender. Even though we are fundamentally the same, we cannot deny the current social construct that influence our behaviour as different genders. His book states that men simply aren’t as emotional as women and his beliefs (from what I can comprehend) contribute to why suicide rates in men are higher. This belief that men cannot ask for help and or don’t talk about how they’re feeling like ‘women’ do (in which he encourages women to just accept this about men) is an outdated concept. Whilst some of which he says has validity, most does not hold any value in modern society. MOST women have jobs like their fellow men therefore women expect a lot more from men. It is not a woman’s responsibility to not only work, but to do majority of the childcare and household work. His book practically explain that men have major ego issues and have a weak sense of self; you must, as a woman protect him at all costs and avoid making him feel incompetent. To do this, you must avoid saying things like “turn the car around, there’s a car spot over there”, “don’t leave that there, you’ll lose it” and “the kids miss you, you should spend more time with them”. He explains that men keep a “scoreboard” for all the times you DO & DONT ask him to do something or ‘criticise’ him. Again, simply stating that the kids miss him is a form of criticism. It’s ironic because he calls women irrational and sensitive but it sounds like, by his definition, men are.
