MICAH
'Raising the dead is easy. Love is hard.'
There are lots of reasons to raise the dead - some private, some public. In this case, the feds have a witness who died before he could speak on the record. They want him raised so his testimony can be taken.
So here I am, Anita Blake, necromancer, on a plane to Philadelphia, flying off to do my job. But I'm not alone: Micah, head of the St Louis wereleopards, is with me. I'm happy to have him at my side. Until he mentions that this will be our first time alone together. Just me and Micah.
And all my fears and doubts...
STRANGE CANDY
Fantastical fairy tales that will leave you craving more: from the woman who marries into a family of wizards to a couple fleeing a gang of love-hungry cupids, readers will revel in these unique visions.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hamilton (Incubus Dreams) delivers a highly palatable portion of what makes her series heroine, federal marshal and vampire-hunter Anita Blake, a bestseller: equal portions hot sex and supernatural crime fighting with a dollop of old-fashioned male-female melodrama served up in a world where new were-animals have their own crisis hotline. Filling in for a colleague, Anita travels to Philadelphia to reanimate a deceased federal witness, accompanied by Micah, her wereleopard lover. The jaunt serves as a chance for them to share some rare one-on-one time without any of her five other lovers around which Anita fears is not necessarily a good thing. Even worse, since her magic energy has grown unexpectedly strong, she suspects this won't be your run-of-th e-mill reincarnation. A good entry point for the uninitiated, this offering provides further insight into both characters and their universe. A bonus excerpt will whet fans' appetites for the 13th full-length novel in the series, Danse Macabre, coming this June.

Da fuq
If you just want it read the Anita Blake books you can skip this one. It’s just a series of short stories that has nothing to do with the Anita Blake story. I was gunning through the series, reading 1 to 2 books a week until this one. This one took me what feels like 4 weeks to finish. If you’re a fan of the author and would like to discover all her other ideas then this is great to read. I was happy to read these short stories, some of them are particularly imaginative and intriguing. However I would have rather not been tricked into purchasing this novel under the guise of it being part of the Anita Blake series, and I would much rather it be half the price! So for that dirty move it can have one star. The author should be karmically punished for pulling such a sly move on her devoted Anita fans.
Disappointing
The 300 pages of Anita Blake I did enjoy. But for the price it was not good enough. Not at all interested in the short stories.
Not bothered.
I adore the series and haven't minded paying more than usual for all the books... Until this one. I'm sorry but 300 pages of what I was desperate to read and 1300 pages of stories I'm not interested in? I don't understand? I'm a little hesitant to carry on with the series, this book has unfortunately been a disappointment.
