Publisher Description

Internal Elections in Egypt; Divisions in Jordan The largest Sunni Muslim fundamentalist movement in the Arab world, the Muslim Brotherhood, is preparing for internal elections in Egypt where it has its largest base, while its Jordan branch is suffering divisions over relations with the Palestinians Hamas group. "Egyptian security sources said the (authorities') policy of undermining the Muslim Brotherhood' activities would continue in the near future," the London-based daily AL HAYAT reported on Sept. 9 without naming the sources. "Meanwhile, officials with the group said it was planning to fulfill certain internal duties to complement its institutions and pump new blood into them, in spite of the security crackdown," the Saudi-owned newspaper said.
