From a New York Times bestselling author: Sparks fly in this definitely-not-falling-in-love workplace romance between a handsome drifter chasing adventure, and a small-town jeweler who would never leave her home behind…
Dashing Scot Jonathan MacLean never returns to the same town twice. The happy-go-lucky philanthropist seeks constant adventure… and is desperate to outrun his past. When a blizzard traps him in a tiny mountaintop village, he meets a woman who tempts him with dreams he'd long since abandoned: Home. Community. Love. But other people’s livelihoods depend on him leaving for good as soon as the snow melts.
Talented jeweler Angelica Parker has spent her life fighting for recognition. She's Black, she's a woman, and she will prove her creations are the equal to any artisan in England. With a contract anchoring her in place for seven years, she lands the project of a lifetime. There's no room for error—or distractions. Such as the charming drifter whose warm embrace and melting kisses have become more precious than jewels...

Unexpected
I did not like Jonathan in the first chapter. Erica did a wonderful job of cloaking him in superficiality. It was such a thick cloak (designed by his business partner Calvin), that I began to think I’d never see through it. Revealing the true Jonathan happened like watching ice melt. Each encounter with the locals at Cressmouth revealed a little more of his fears of making real connections.
Jonathan had spent his life trying not to make connections, he wanted to prove that he was a self made man. Angelica has spent her life trying to prove to her family that she is a great jeweller, even making a seven year commitment to Cressmouth, in order to own her shop. Two focussed, dedicated people who fall in love and need to find a way to compromise, before they can get their HEA.
It took a while for the Duke in ‘One night with the Duke’ to appear and it wasn’t what I had expected. This story was an unexpected, complex story that contained moments of fun and thoughtfulness.
This story is full of historic references to people who were instrumental in the abolitionist movement in the British Isles and important African members of society at that time. Erica provides some suggestions for further reading.
