PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Warren (Falling for the Beast) combines hot love scenes and suspense of questionable plausibility in this erotic romantic thriller, the first of a planned trilogy. Violin prodigy Samantha Brooks was placed into the custody of former soldier Liam North at the age of 12, after her ambassador-turned-spy father's sudden death, which orphaned her. Liam is 16 years Samantha's senior and the owner of a successful security business in Texas's Hill Country. By the time Samantha is about to turn 18, Liam is also desperately fighting his attraction to her, seeing her as forbidden fruit. Samantha reciprocates his feelings, but is afraid to show it until he walks in on her pleasuring herself. Warren ratchets up the heat and sexual tension as she weaves in hints of danger for Samantha, including a nefarious driver who tries to force her off the road and ends up dead. Both the suspense plot and the several subplots (including a pervy high school coach threatening a minor character, the slow revelation of how Samantha became placed in Liam's home, and the details of Liam's abusive childhood) are uneven in places. However, Warren's tortured, honorable hero will break even the hardest of hearts. The story ends on a cliffhanger of dubious believability, but Warren's sympathetic characters and sizzling love scenes will likely inspire dedicated erotic romance fans to tune in for the next installment. Interesting Cliffhanger
Skye Warren is a new author to me, no idea why that is though. I had no idea that Overture ends on a cliff hanger so be prepared.
I was a little hesitant about this book at first as I am not too keen on stories where the age difference is substantial; however, I went in to Overture with an open mind.
This was a book that despite my initial reservations I enjoyed. Liam North is a man who struggles over the feelings he has for his ward Samantha Brooks, a violin prodigy.
There was plenty to tug at the heart strings in this story, as Liam and Samantha struggle with their feelings and attraction. Both Liam and Samanyja struggle with their demons from the past and it is this struggle that forms the basis for this story. Liam will do anything to protect Samantha from the danger if hidden enemies. They both feel the need to protect one another not only from others but from each other.
There were some surprising twists and turns in Overture and I am interested to see what happens in the next book. Will Samantha find the answers that she desperately seeks? I can’t wait to find out.

Amateurishly written. The language is aggressive and crude and counteracts any attempt at romance development. Women reading romance want to root for the couple to succeed. It’s hard to do that when you have sequences that read like rape. Try reading some big name romance authors to get the style right.
Wonderful characters
4.5 Stars for Overture which book 1 in the new North Security Series from Skye Warren. Thi book is a beautifully written taboo romance with the perfect mix of love and angst.
Liam North never expected to become Samantha’s guardian, he never expected to suddenly be responsible for a teenage girl. Samantha was a child prodigy with the violin when she came to live with Liam but now she becoming a woman and she does everything in her power to make Liam see that she is not the child he still sees her as.......
Liam may have taken Sam in as a teenager but most of this story is written from when Sam reaches 17 well nearly 18 to be exact, this is a story about two very complex people fighting their emotions and their feelings, it’s about secrets but most importantly it’s above love. This book touched me on every level, it touched my heart as I watched this couple try to find happiness whilst struggling because society says they should never have fallen in love . Looking forward to what’s next in this series because if this book is anything to go by it will certainly be a hit for this very talented author.
