Publisher Description

King's iconic, beloved classic is 'so beautifully paced that you cannot help but be pulled in' Guardian.

'SOMETIMES...DEAD IS BETTER'

The house looked right, felt right to Dr Louis Creed.

Rambling, old, unsmart and comfortable. A place where the family could settle; the children grow and play and explore. The rolling hills and meadows of Maine seemed a world away from the fume-choked dangers of Chicago.

Only the occasional big truck out on the two-lane highway, grinding up through the gears, hammering down the long gradients, growled out an intrusive threat.

But behind the house and far away from the road: that was safe. Just a carefully cleared path up into the woods where generations of local children have processed with the solemn innocence of the young, taking with them their dear departed pets for burial.

A sad place maybe, but safe. Surely a safe place. Not a place to seep into your dreams, to wake you, sweating with fear and foreboding.

:)

This book led me in for an amazing, and thrilling ride. It will always be one of my favourite books, simply because of the plot, and the way it was paced. It is an amazing book, and you can see his hard work and voice reflected throughout each and every sentence in the book. Each word, each metaphor, they all are like puzzle pieces that fit together the give the us the horrific, yet elaborate ending of the book. I loved this book, and I still do, although not as much as “It” or “The Shining.

Spotted two errors

1. The doctor classifies the flu as bacterial and not a virus
2. He talks about “glottal grunts and clicks” used in the language of the “Australian Bush people”!! Whatttttt?

Chilling and addictive!

My first Stephen King book and I am hooked, can’t wait to read another. A wonderful introduction to his works for me.
