LOVE HEALS
Ms. Golden has a warm and welcoming style that evokes empathy even in her character's darkest moments. This book left me speechless. Such a raw story rich in complexity and spirit. The characters were well-developed and realistic. The plot was unique and explored human emotions with all of their frailty. I loved the dynamics between Jake and Vidalia.Their understanding was based on their own life experiences. Their relationship was not rushed but allowed to bloom naturally.
Vidalia's struggle with guilt and blame was painful to read. She was a broken soul in need of mending. I found her journey both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Vidalia took a friend's offer to spend time in his cabin to reflect and heal from the stressors crippling her. She was a powder keg waiting to explode and wanted to be left alone.
Jake was doing a favor for a friend, checking to see if Vidalia had settled in okay. What he got was a closed-off woman who, in his opinion, needed a keeper. Vidalia brought out Jake’s protective instincts. He continued to keep her safe, even from herself. He was an old-fashioned man with a hard hand and gained her trust one spanking at a time. Jake had his demons, giving him insight into Vidalia's trauma. I admired how Jake supported and loved Vidalia through the challenging moments.
How he peeled back her layers, making her vulnerable enough to start to heal. This book made me cry at times as it played with my emotions. A great story that left me wanting to know more about these characters and their future together
