It's the best night of her life. It's the last night of her life.
Sixteen-year-old Jenna Harbough's parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It's the best night of her life. It's the last night of her life.
Minutes later, Jake's in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it's no use. It's time to call Lieutenant Eve Dallas.
Who could want this level-headed teen, passionate about her music, dead? Was she targeted or could she have been the victim of a random attack? And if she was, who's next.....?
Customer Reviews
Hold onto your hats readers, this one’s a doozy of a roller-coaster ride.
This is J D Robb at her best. The action starts on the first pages and doesn’t let up until the last chapter. Homicide lieutenant, Eve Dallas is called out on a hot summer night, when a young girl dies in the arms of rockstar Jake of band ‘Avenue A’, main squeeze of Eve’s friend Nadine Furst, investigative journalist. While Eve is processing the crime, the perpetrator is already planning for his next victim. This is a very tight race, find a disguised killer, who kills in crowds, randomly selects his victims and has a timetable of a victim per day. The pacing is fast, furious, the sarcasm is rife, the drama and the humour just right, all the excellence you’d expect from an “In Death” story.
Awesome
Random in Death is a great mystery read unlike many of the books where Eve and her team already know the victim in Random in Death neither victim or perpetrator are known right up until the end not even during the book. The victims are not planned. This keeps the reader intrigued and makes this episode a refreshing twist to Eve’s career cases.
