Could an unexpected windfall be the gift of a lifetime?
Alice never expected to inherit the falling-apart-at-the-seams old Wild West B&B she once considered home, nor did she expect that she'd have to share it with two strangers.
Except they weren't always strangers. Once upon a time, they were friends.
One is her ex-BFF Lauren. The other is Knox, the only guy to ever break her heart.
Years ago, each of them independently helped the same woman, never expecting that it would link them together forever. And now Alice, Lauren, and Knox, all broken in their own ways, must find a way to get along with each other. According to the woman's will, they must renovate the inn as a team for one year, or else lose their inheritance.
Stuck together, they make a list of rules to keep the peace. The rules may not be that effective, but if they can weather the storm, they might find something they didn't even know they were looking for - acceptance, real friendship, and maybe even true love.
Raves for Jill Shalvis's life-affirming novels:

'Sisterhood takes center stage in this utterly absorbing novel. Jill Shalvis balances her trademark sunny optimism and humor with unforgettable real-life drama. A book to savor - and share' Susan Wiggs
'Readers will find it easy to root for Shalvis's stubborn, vulnerable heroines to recognize both the decency and compassion of the sexy men who love them and their own worthiness to be loved. This heartfelt tale is thoroughly satisfying' Publishers Weekly
Bestseller Shalvis shines in her endearing third Sunrise Cove series (after The Friendship Pact). Alice Moore; her brother, Will; her best friend (and Will's girlfriend), Lauren Scott; and Alice's crush, Knox Rawlings, grew up together in Sunrise Cove, Calif., looked after by feisty local matriarch and "pseudo-grandmother" Eleanor Graham. Four years before the book starts, Will died, as did Knox's alcoholic mother, and Alice and Knox separately fled town. Lauren, the only one who stays behind, is also the only blood relative to Eleanor, but they were long estranged due to the lies of Lauren's selfish father. All three 20-something former friends are surprised when Eleanor dies and leaves the trio co-ownership of the Wild West Last Chance Inn in Sunrise Cove, with the stipulation that all must come to the inn for the necessary renovations or forfeit their share. As restoring the inn helps to heal old wounds, the friends slowly find their way back to each other—and true love blossoms between both Alice and Knox and Lauren and local widower Ben, whose five-year-old daughter is a scene-stealer. Readers will easily fall for Shalvis's well-shaded characters and heart-filled plot. This is the literary equivalent of comfort food. Agent: Annelise Robey, Jane Rotrosen Agency.
Jill Shalvis is a relatively new author and I have to say I found The Backup Plan to be well written. This was an entertaining and at times emotional read that had me hooked from the first chapter.
Imagine your surprise when you suddenly find that you have inherited a share in an old Wild West B & B along with the man who broke her heart, Knox and her ex best friend Lauren. That’s the position that Alice finds herself in and she has no idea her life is about to change.
Alice, Knox and Lauren are all haunted by the past and each have secrets that they want to keep buries. Thanks to the will, they now need to renovate and run the inn together or lose their inheritance.
As they work together friendships ignite and love blossoms. However what happens when the renovations are complete? Will they lose the friendship that have formed? Will they throw it all away or take a change ?
It was wonderful to watch the growth of all the characters as the story progressed. The Backup Plan is a story of courage and hope, of looking deep inside oneself and taking a chance.
Another great story from Jill, of friendship, family and love.
