Publisher Description
In this gripping page-turner, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life. The brand-new thriller from international number one bestseller Stephenie Meyer.
She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.
Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.
When her former handler offers her a way out, she realises it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires makes her situation even more dangerous.
Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.
In this tautly plotted novel, Stephenie Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialised skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's bestselling authors.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this uneven adult romantic thriller from YA bestseller Meyer (the Twilight series), a woman "currently calling herself Chris Taylor," a former operative for a secret U.S. government agency that killed her mentor, must take extraordinary steps to stay alive. The compelling opening chapters document the extreme precautions Chris employs to avoid leaving traces of her presence, as well as the sophisticated self-defense mechanisms she has devised. When Chris receives an email from Carston, a former agency colleague, she replies that she'll meet him one week later where they first met, which turns to be an outdoor cafe in Washington, D.C. At their rendezvous, Carston persuades Chris to use her skills as a no-holds-barred inquisitor to prevent a crippling bioterrorism attack on the country. The first step is for Chris to locate Daniel Beach, who has been working with a Mexican drug lord to distribute a super-charged influenza virus. Once Chris finds Daniel, the plot plays out along predictable lines that don't do justice to the intriguing setup. Underdrawn characterizations don't help.

The Chemist
Loved this book great plot, it just kept getting better. Hard to put down.
Decent
Pleasantly surprised with this book. Took a while to get into it, the initial evasiveness was annoying, but I liked the main characters and it was good to read a Stephanie Meyers romance that didn’t impose the authors religious beliefs on the love story (!).But I really loved the dogs the most… so glad that storyline was properly tied up. Overall entertaining and worth a read.
The Chemist
This was an absolute page turner. I was reading so fast to find out what happened next that I had to keep going back to re-read what I'd just skimmed over in my haste! I'll read this one again!
