The First Greeks of Boston
Publisher Description
Most Greeks came to Boston and New England in the early part of the 20th century. But e few Greeks were here as early as the as the 18th and perhaps even as the 17th.
Those who came in the 1900s had the Church and other local groups as their links. But that emigration wave had its roots in the nineteenth century as Greece was emerging from out of four centuries of Ottoman rule. It was those Greeks who came here without knowing the language or any one person for help. They had no resources and no support groups but they did have the faith that this was the land of opportunity and fairness. Theirs was a remarkable generation.
This is their story…..
