He thinks he’s safe up there.
But he’ll never be safe from you.

The Heights is a tall, slender apartment building among the warehouses of Tower Bridge, its roof terrace so discreet you wouldn’t know it existed if you weren't standing at the window of the flat directly opposite. But you are. And that’s when you see a man up there – a man you’d recognize anywhere. He’s older now and his appearance has subtly changed, but it’s definitely him.

Which makes no sense at all since you know he has been dead for over two years.

You know this for a fact.

Because you’re the one who killed him.

A chilling read

The Heights is a compelling psychological thriller about how one tragic event tears a family apart, how one’s overwhelming grief turns into obsession and the lengths they will go to in getting revenge. It is dark, twisty, heartbreaking and very addictive.

Louise Candlish has crafted a thought provoking read that will have you asking yourself, what would you do if you were faced with the same situation as our lead. I was so conflicted reading this book after finding out all of the facts, torn between right and wrong. It really did mess with my head and my moral compass.

The characters are real and evoke many different emotions within you. The standout was Ellen who my heart broke for. I enjoyed the narrative style of the book whereby she speaks to the reader as an author writing a book, that covers life before and after the tragic event. This made it all the more personal and getting the reader to understand her reasoning as to the things she does.

The Heights has been well written and is a very compelling read that got under my skin. Long after finishing it, it still has been playing around in my head as has the question of what I would do in the same situation. I now have an answer to it, but I think I will just keep it to myself…😉
