A chilling read
I was intrigued immediately when I read the blurb for this book and I couldn’t wait to read it. I was not disappointed! The opening chapter of the story is so chilling that it still gives me goosebumps when I think about it. I also have to mention the cover art of the book which is so striking. It throws off an ominous vibe, which sets the tone of the book perfectly.
Cass has created a dark psychological thriller with a believable plot. Set over the time periods of 2003, 2018, 2019 and 2021, the story moves through a duel narrative predominantly between Elliot and Irene as two stories are told that are then melded together. It is twisted, thrilling, compelling and completely addictive! The Killer Inside will keep you enthralled right from the get go till the gobsmacking finale.
The characters in this story are very complex, realistic and all have been written extremely well. Elliot appears genuine but at times you are left wondering and second guessing yourself if he really is a good guy. His wife Anya gave me a level of discomfort right from the get go. As the story progresses, the more we get to know Anya the more you see that there is something that is not right with her. Both are hiding a secret and you are left wondering who has the biggest one to hide. Irene on the other hand, broke my heart and I loved her from the start. Her story leads her on a journey to find her missing son. I could feel her desperation at all times and my heart broke for her.
I enjoy Cass’ writing style. It is very fluid and engaging and although the story moves at a slow pace and could have been speeded up, Cass knows how to build suspense that was able to keep my attention until all was revealed.
A new author to me, Cass will definitely be on my radar now for upcoming books. I throughly enjoyed The Killer Inside and would definitely recommend this to other readers.
Thank-you to NetGalley, Harper Collins and Cass Green for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Killer Inside which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
