An ingenious plot, gripping action and characters who leap off the page: discover why readers love Steve Cavanagh:
'Cavanagh stands head and shoulders above the competition, with his skilfully plotted, action-packed and big-hearted Eddie Flynn novels . . . highly intelligent, twist-laden and absolutely unputdownable' Eva Dolan, author of the critically acclaimed Tell No Tales
'What a thriller! Breathlessly brilliant and fiendishly clever' Miranda Dickinson
'A cleverly constructed legal thriller combined with a classic locked-room mystery. Eddie Flynn is fast becoming one of my favourite fictional heroes and Cavanagh one of my favourite thriller writers.' S.J.I. Holliday, author of Black Wood
'Raymond Chandler could have created Eddie Flynn. THE PLEA is Phillip Marlowe and Michael Connolly's Mickey Haller combined, with a bit of Jim Thompson's THE GRIFTERS thrown in. A superb read with a main character destined to be one of the most talked about in crime fiction.' Howard Linskey, author of The Search

Customer Reviews
Engaging, entertaining
Author
Irish civil rights lawyer. (Real name Steve Mearns). Born and raised in Belfast. Moved to Dublin at age 18 to study law. Five published thrillers involving New York conman turned lawyer Eddie Flynn, with a sixth on the way in August 2021. I’ve read #2 and #5 and liked them.
In brief
Our boy is summoned in the middle of the night by an ex-military dude turned wealthy private security entrepreneur whose beloved daughter has been kidnapped. On his way there, Eddie’s served with a demand for legal records from a case handled by his legal mentor back in the day who handed over his files to our boy after he became a superior court judge. The FBI is all over the kidnapping case but getting nowhere. The vic’s Dad pulls an insurance scam that blows up in his face, as does his house. Meanwhile, a venal (is there any other kind) plaintiff attorney is trying to stitch our boy’s judge mate up for malpractice for not representing a client, yada, yada, FBI charges our boy’s new client with murder of his daughter, investigatory dead ends, yada, yada, people are not what they seems, court room action, dodgy testimony, defendant tries to top himself, sleight of hand by our hero, blood and guts, twists and turns. The two cases come together and lead to dramatic conclusion in the cemetery at Sleepy Hollow of all places.
Writing
Slick, fast paced, with a touch of wise cracking humour to lighten things up. Mr Flynn’s heart in the right place but he’s a rogue by nature, which prevents him sounding holier than thou. I doubt there are many real life lawyers are called upon to soak up as much physical punishment as him, but it’s America. Anything’s possible. The supporting cast are mostly caricature.
Bottom line
It might not be literature but it’s an engaging, entertaining read with a protagonist about whom I want to read more.
Great read
Excellent, rapid pace, unpredictable throughout.
