The Reporter

Scott's stretching himself.

When two of my favourite authors get together to play in a universe I love, my spine shivers in anticipation and fear that they might not hit that sweet note I am looking for. I got something different in this book.

Sigler loves to shock, his writing is harsh and appeals to the teenage me I left behind a couple of decades ago. Lafferty writes beautiful haunting heroines who challenge my emotions.

Together, these two writers have taken a small character in the GFL universe and built a strong woman of depth who could carry a series by herself.

Mur's influence wasn't obvious to me until toward the end of the book when we visit a scene from the original series, hard, with sharp edges. These other characters are written differently and that is obvious.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story where we see Scott Sigler toning down the shock and giving his characters a different sort of strength.

I look forward to seeing what Scott learns from working with Matt Wallace in The Detective, and I am hoping he writes the stories of Commissioner Frose and the guy who gave Quentin the yacht.

The Reporter is an excellent addition to the GFL universe, and worth spending time with.
