The Mordaunts aren't like most families . . .
For one, their family home is Roxborough Hall - a magnificent, centuries-old mansion in the Norfolk countryside. For another, the house isn't passed down from parent to child - but rather to the family member deemed most worthy.
Cecily Mordaunt is dead. On the evening of her funeral, her family will gather for dinner and each will be given a letter, revealing who is the next custodian of Roxborough Hall.
The house is a burden, a millstone, a full-time job . . . but they all want it. And some are willing do anything to get it.
One family. Eight letters. Who will get what they deserve?

Loved it
“One family. Eight letters. Who will get what they deserve?…”
Nothing brings the worst out in some people more than a deceased family members will. In the case of this tale, it is a mansion in the Norfolk countryside known as Roxborough Hall, where the deceased chooses one person to inherit whom they deem worthy, that is up for grabs.
I found this concept to be so interesting and it stood out above other tales in a similar vain where the focus it just on money. I enjoyed learning about the history of the tradition, but there is so much more to the story. A family drama with secrets, lies and deceit to uncover that is done so spectacularly through its many twists and turns.
The players are flawed and complex and each with their own reasons for wanting the mansion. It is told from the perspective of each which gives great insight into their characters. I particularly enjoyed the chapters from the past involving the mansion current custodian Cecily Mordaunt before her death and her best friend Violet.
I absolutely loved this book and was disappointed when it ended as I was enjoying so much! Gripping from start to finish I just devoured it. This is only the second book I have read from Reid and I really enjoy her style of storytelling and how she vividly brought this one to life. A must read that I highly recommend checking out.
