Who, me? Princess?
Izumi Tanaka has lived an uneventful seventeen years in her small, mostly white, northern California town, keenly aware of all the ways in which her family is different from most of her classmates’. But then Izumi discovers a clue to her previously unknown father’s identity . . . and he’s none other than the Crown Prince of Japan. Which means outspoken, irreverent, can-burp-the-alphabet Izzy is literally a princess.
Soon she’s traveling overseas to meet the father she never knew and discover the country she's only dreamed of. But being a princess isn’t all ball gowns and tiaras. There are conniving cousins, a hungry press, a scowling but handsome bodyguard who just might be her soulmate, and thousands of years of tradition and customs to learn practically overnight. Izzy soon finds herself caught between worlds, and between versions of herself—back home, she was never “American” enough, and in Japan, she must prove she’s "Japanese" enough. Will Izumi crumble under the weight of the crown, or will she live out her fairytale, happily ever after?
Customer Reviews
The best book I’ve read in a good whike
This book made me laugh, swoon, cry and feel warm all over. It had all my favourite tropes (enemies to lovers, bodyguard, rags to riches), jokes and other books or movie relations, and a story that warms up every inch of my soul. I haven’t read a book this good in a long while. As a mix girl of Filipino and Lebanese background living in Australia I strongly related to that feeling of not belonging entirely to one culture and/or place, but this book really flipped my perspective. It’s witty and inspiring, and the love story is to DIE for. All I can say is if you don’t read this, you’re truely missing out on a masterpiece. It’s quirky and relatable in every way, I fell in love with this book!!!!
