Publisher Description

Yesterday they were a family like any other…

Twenty-year-old Rachel McDermott was your typical girl-next-door. She loved her job as a nurse, was close to her family in the small Irish town of Corbally and seemed to have no enemies. So when she is brutally murdered, the local community reels in horror and Detective Iris Locke is put on the case.

The main suspect is her close friend, sixteen-year-old Eleanor Marshall, a tearaway teenager with addiction problems whose parents have long since turned their backs on her. Eleanor was last seen fleeing the scene where Rachel’s body was found and is now missing in the woods near the Comeragh mountains.

Eleanor’s sister Karena insists Eleanor wouldn’t have hurt her best friend, but a day later, when Karena is found dead in the area Eleanor is hiding, Iris knows things don’t look good for the runaway teen. She doesn’t want to believe that Eleanor is her sister’s killer, but all the evidence seems to point that way.

But Iris can’t let go of the elements of the case she doesn’t have answers for. The fact that Rachel’s father died in suspicious circumstances. The strange company that Rachel was keeping the night before she died. Was it guilt or fear that made Eleanor run? And can Iris find her before it is too late?

This gripping mystery thriller is perfect for fans of Carol Wyer, Robert Dugoni and LJ Ross.

A solid read.

Why She Ran is the second instalment in the Detective Iris Locke series and is a great addition and perfect followup to Her Sister’s Bones, which I would recommend readIng before this latest instalment. It is a tense read that is full of action and suspense that keeps you on your toes till the end.

In this latest instalment, we see Iris still reeling from the events that occurred in book one, when she is called to investigate the death of nurse Rachel McDermott, when she is found in the hospitals kitchen brutally murdered. When Rachel’s friend Eleanor is seen fleeing from the scene she becomes the prime suspect, although Iris can’t shake the feeling that Eleanor is innocent.

But when Eleanor’s sister the next person to turn up dead things don’t look great for Eleanor. Still convinced that she has nothing to do with these murders, Iris digs into Rachel’s past and discovers that the company she kept may have something to do with these murders and Iris and her team have their work cut out for them in solving the case quIckly before the killer strikes again.

I really like Iris who has been expertly written as a strong female. I also really enjoy the relationship between herself and Ben. They work really well together and I look forward to seeing how this working partnership evolves even more in future books. The other characters in this story have all been well developed and play out their roles extremely well.

Geraldine has a great style and she does a good job in engaging the reader through fluid writing, developed characters and a well researched story line. While it is a slow burn, this just adds to the tension and suspense in the build up to the conclusion, which I enjoyed.

Why She Ran is a great crime thriller that ticks all the boxes in what I love in this genre and I look forward to the next instalment. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review Why She Ran which I recommend.

Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Geraldine Hogan for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Why She Ran which have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Didn’t disappoint

After reading her sister’s bones I just had to continue on the journey. Once again well written, couldn’t put the book down. Lets hope there will be more from the same author.

Painful

Chapters were too long and filled with too much unnecessary information and characters. Couldn’t even finish it
