Publisher Description
50 years of an iconic classic! This international bestseller and inspiration for a beloved movie is a heroic story of friendship and belonging.
No one ever said life was easy. But Ponyboy is pretty sure that he's got things figured out. He knows that he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he can count on his friends—true friends who would do anything for him, like Johnny and Two-Bit. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up on “greasers” like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect—until the night someone takes things too far.
The Outsiders is a dramatic and enduring work of fiction that laid the groundwork for the YA genre. S. E. Hinton's classic story of a boy who finds himself on the outskirts of regular society remains as powerful today as it was the day it was first published.
"The Outsiders transformed young-adult fiction from a genre mostly about prom queens, football players and high school crushes to one that portrayed a darker, truer world." —The New York Times

Such a BEAUTIFUL & touching story
As I begin to think how to properly rate this story, I MUST start off by PRAISING the author, S.E. Hinton. She was only 15 when she began writing this classic coming of age tale. She was 16 when she completed it. The fact that a teenager wrote such a powerful story is amazing. I can’t help but wonder if the character Cherry in this book wasn’t based off the author???? Hmmm!!!
Anyway, if you have never seen the movie by the same name or read the book… READ THE STORY FIRST or listen to the audiobook, and then watch the movie. The way in which the author began building the characters and developing them through the story is most impressive for a first-time teenage author.
You want to give a good bear hug to almost all the main characters. Any book that can bring emotions alive to the reader (or listener) is to be commended. I’m 60 and towards the final chapters, I was struggling to fight back tears.
This is a MUST READ / MUST LISTEN book for anyone of any age. I truly wished I could jump inside the story towards the end to give the Curtis brothers ALL a big hug.
I do not want to say too much because spoilers can ruin a book for some people. But without a doubt, this audiobook is worth listening to. I also own and have read the book as well. I actually enjoy reading and listening to a book at the same time.
Most audiobooks I own, I also own the physical book as well. I’ve read many books from various genres over the years and as Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels are generally my favorite. If I had a chance to meet just one author, while I am a HUGE fan of Orson Scott Card… I would choose S. E. Hinton and maybe buy her a coffee or Sodapop (that’s actually a character in the story).
So S. E. Hinton, if you should ever read this: Bravo, bravo, BRAVO!!! What a truly classic literary masterpiece!
