A Talent for War

I’ve read thousands of novels in the last 45 years, most of the science fiction or fantasy. I find it difficult to find new things to read, so I recently uploaded a list of my books to AI and asked for suggestions. It mentioned this series.
I grabbed the first one. Took me a couple chapters to get into it … a mountaintop monastery? An antiques dealer? A *mystery* genre novel? I wasn’t at all sure what I was reading. I finished the seven novel series in six days. All good, some excellent, all worth reading.
Heiinlein, Niven, Baxter (with a little less “hard” in the sci-fi) .. not sure who to compare this to, but I like it.

The level of authorship of this novel is amazingly complex and beautifully written, similar to other books Jack McDevitt has written, only to a higher degree. This is not a simple book of science fiction, it is an intricate web of interactions set in the future, that completes its inter-related silks of complexity only on the last page. This is a true masterpiece and is a must read.

I had just read Seeker and thought it was pretty good. A Talent for War is even better than Seeker. The plot is well paced and not too predictable and there is always a new layer to the mystery that beckons you to read just one more page.

This book is very fun and I hope the rest books in the series can match or exceed it.
