The Modiste and the Blacksmith
William Jackson and Caroline Brown are both living with guilt they don’t believe can be expunged. He, for the death of his cousin in war and she, for the betrayal of a friend. The blacksmith and the modiste “notice” each other, but both have vowed not to get close to anyone, and certainly not to encourage romance. This is a wonderful story of regret, reflection, forgiveness, and love. William and Caroline are so much more than the past that haunts them. They are caring, charitable, and generous. Their wishes to be alone begin to crumble when they are thrown together on Christmas. While Caroline tends his sprained ankle, they talk and come to know more about each other. Will they be able to break out of their shells? Can they help each other heal, and find love? The heartwarming story has sadness, but it also has fun, romance, reconciliation, a magnificent surprise, and a hint at what might come next in the series. An enjoyable story.
