The Church is crumbling!
Two years ago, the Temple Knights' unexpected victory staved off a Halvarian invasion. Now, the two knights who spearheaded the resistance are ordered to the seat of the Church under a cloud of mystery.
Charlaine and Danica traverse across half the Continent, beset by unknown forces trying to stop them before they reach the Antonine. When they encounter two realms on the brink of a pointless war, they realize sinister forces are at work.
Upon their arrival, the fighting orders are in turmoil, the foundation of the Saints shaken to its core by deceit and a mad quest for power. The Church is rotting from within, with politics threatening the hierarchy they were sworn to protect.
Can these two intrepid sister knights save their order, or will the fall of Temple Knights of Saint Agnes bring about the end of the Continent?
With the future of their order hanging in the balance, Danica and Charlaine must take measures into their own hands in Paul J Bennett’s Temple General, book seven in the Power Ascending series.
Prepare to traverse a continent teeming with danger when you tear into your copy of Temple General today.

Good, But Not Great
I am a fan of Paul Bennett and I have greatly enjoyed this series. Full disclosure — I have already pre-ordered Warrior King. However, although this novel is well written and provides plenty of the details that I feel bring life and realism to a story, I found this installment of the series to be less engaging. Part of that might be due to the lengthy gap since I completed the prior novel, leading to a loss of emotional connection to the main characters. But I also felt that there was less mystery and scheming - the storyline seemed more predictable. Unlike the previous novels, the main protagonists appeared to bow to the inevitable rather than struggle to find ways to materially oppose the growing corruption of the church despite the obstacles stacked against them. In contrast to the cleverness and insight demonstrated in previous novels in response to looming catastrophe, the Temple General’s plans to save the Agnesites seemed incomplete and lacking in foresight, lacking coordination with the other orders or church assets beyond the walls of the Antonine. At the very least, a good map would have been handy! This installment has much of the feel of the previous novels, but lacks the compelling character development, planning, and problem solving that attracted me from the start.
