An instant New York Times bestseller!
“Stunning. Fiendishly plotted with whiplash twists and turns — Shari Lapena is at the very top of her game here. [She Didn't See It Coming] might be my favorite yet!” —Lucy Foley
The new gripping novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
When a beloved wife and mother disappears, a luxurious condo building transforms into a potential crime scene, and the investigation begins: can the detectives find her before it's too late?
Bryden and Sam have it all: thriving careers, a smart apartment in a luxury condominium, supportive friends and a cherished daughter. The perfect life for the perfect couple.
Then Sam receives a call at his office. Bryden – working from home that day – has failed to collect their daughter from daycare. Arriving home with their little girl, he finds his wife’s car in the underground garage. Upstairs in their apartment her laptop is open on the table, her cell phone nearby, her keys in their usual place in the hall.
Except Bryden is nowhere to be seen. It’s as if she just walked out.
How can she have disappeared from her own home? And did she even leave the building at all?
With every minute that passes – and as questions swirl around their community – Bryden and Sam’s past seems a little less perfect, their condominium less safe, their friends, neighbors and relatives no longer quite so reliable . . .
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The disappearance of a “perfect” mom kicks off this twisty domestic thriller. When Bryden Frost fails to pick up her daughter from daycare and then cannot be found, her apparently loving husband, Sam, is the obvious suspect. But as Detective Jayne Salter investigates, the instinctive and psychologically astute cop uncovers a dark underside to the couple’s seemingly perfect life that soon involves their extended circle of well-to-do friends, family, and a few chance acquaintances as well. Author Shari Lapena brilliantly weaves the kind of tangled tale that made her name, expertly hinting at the lies and deceit that make domestic suspense so enthralling. Mixing multiple points of view with a bushel of enticing red herrings and nefarious motives involving Bryden’s sister, best friend, and more, she kept us guessing till the final shocking reveal. She Didn’t See It Coming is a smart thriller that makes a great vacation read.
Customer Reviews
Like it a lot
I think one of her best. A little slow at the very first then built from there
Captivating
I had a very hard time guessing who was the actual murder. I’m usually pretty good at guessing even when it’s not obvious. So many twists and turns. Loved the ending.
Boring
No depth.
