The Forests Of Muskets

Fifty-eight men. One mission. A war hidden within a war.

July, 1757. As Britain and France fight for control of North America, Major Nathaniel Harwood leads a hand-picked company of fifty-eight soldiers into the wilderness beyond Fort Edward.

Their orders seem simple: uncover signs of French military activity and return with intelligence.

But someone already knows they are coming.

Deep in the forest, Harwood discovers secret supply stations, captured British soldiers and armed men who belong to neither side. At the centre of it all is a mysterious organisation marked by the symbol of a black rook—an enemy that appears to know British movements before they happen.

When Harwood discovers that information is being passed from inside his own ranks, the mission becomes something far more dangerous. Every trail could be a trap. Every order could already be compromised. And every man beside him could be working for the enemy.

As the French advance towards Fort William Henry and the frontier erupts into war, Harwood and his dwindling company are drawn into a hidden conflict stretching far beyond the battlefield.

Because Rook is not simply watching the war.

It is using it.
