The Woman Who Checked Out Twice

A woman checks into Room 303 under the name of someone who vanished twenty-two years ago. The hotel records show she checked out two hours before she arrived.

Forensic audio restorer Lena Hart follows an old railway recorder to Briar Glen, a mountain hotel reopening above an abandoned tunnel. When the mysterious guest disappears from a locked room and an appraiser is found dead in the luggage lift, every clock, camera, and witness tells a different version of the morning.

Hidden speakers can imitate Lena's voice. A low-frequency pulse makes empty rooms feel occupied. And somewhere in the hotel, a second woman in the same green coat is carrying the missing page of a ledger that could expose a crime buried since the Calder train wreck.

With Detective Owen Mercer and restoration architect Amara Singh, Lena must untangle a staged disappearance from a real murder before the hotel checks out its final witness for good.
