Publisher Description
Evil comes in frightening and familiar forms in this terrifying novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz.
Once there was a girl who ran away and joined a traveling carnival. She married a man she grew to hate—and gave birth to a child she could never love. A child so monstrous that she killed it with her own hands...
Twenty-five years later, Ellen Harper has a new life, a new husband, and two normal children—Joey loves monster movies and Amy is about to graduate from high school. But their mother drowns her secret guilt in alcohol and prayer. The time has come for Amy and Joey to pay for her sins, because the carnival is coming back to town...

Wonderful Characters & Believable Plot
I purchased this book on a whim while out shopping the other day as I favor Koontz's writing style, character & plot development, as a story unfolds for the reader. I started reading the book that evening and found it very hard to put down. I particularly thank Koontz for selecting the words so eloquently and his ever-flowing narrative format, which makes this book a pleasure to read. The storyline is something that builds itself exceptionally well in an ordered direction; meaning it flows on a calm stream with no rapids to pull you down to the bottom. Not once did I experience one of those "what just happened?" sections that are commonly popping up in books written by many authors out there in bookworld. The bottom line is that this book is worth the read and will not leave you disappointed as it nears its end; and then does end of course. What I really liked about this book is that it leaves a nice ending for a new beginning of some sort of sequel that I personally would read to continue this journey. Do not read me wrong, the books ends as a book should end, but there are possibilities for the next book. Cheers for the entertainment, Mr. Koontz.
