I’m determined to win over the one guy who hates me…but I never expected to fall for him
Being a prince may seem like a fairytale, but to me, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. That’s why I’m excited when I get permission from my uncle—the king of Norway—to go undercover as a student at an American college for a year. And I’m even more ecstatic to be selected for their football team. Soccer, I mean. The only problem? Farron, the team captain, dislikes me on sight. Determined to win him over, I start a charm offensive, but nothing works. He only hates me more.
Until the animosity comes to an explosive release…and we end up kissing each other. How did that happen when neither of us has ever been attracted to a guy before? Farron wants to let it run its course and get it out of our system, but I doubt that’ll work. I’m falling for him hard, but he has no idea who I really am. I fear that if he finds out, he’ll never speak to me again…
The Prince and the Player is the first book in the Prince Pact series and features an undercover, sunshiney prince and a grumpy, handsome soccer captain, two guys who mistake hate for attraction, a double bi-awakening, and two opposites who attract each other like magnets.
Perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston, Alexis Hall and Jax Calder

Very good
Delightful. Kind of a cross between Heated Rivalry and Red White and Royal Blue. I enjoyed it.
Just ok
The story itself is enjoyable and cozy, but this book is not without issues. I don’t say this lightly, but much of the book feels written by AI and there are numerous telltale signs. The em dash is used heavily throughout, scenes are described twice in a row (slightly differently each time), there’s a lack of sentence structure variety, and literally every interaction between to two main characters is described as “electric” or some variation of the word.
This could just be a lack of grammatical skills on the author’s part, which is another issue if that is the case, but it feels much more like AI was heavily relied on throughout.
A fun and hopeful read
The Prince and the Player was a lot of fun to read, with a quick story that was still engaging. The characters had enough depth to make it interesting and to get wrapped up in their journey. As a reader of mostly deep science “layperson” books that are hard to read but oh so profound - I found the portrayal of these characters to be in-depth and a romance story was refreshing. I also felt uplifted by the supportive community reaction to their discovery / coming out. They might’ve been surprised, but they were also happy to see joy. It might be fiction but I hope there is a kernel of truth as we all have much bigger things to worry about. I highly recommend this book. Now to read the next one!
