A lie changed her world. Police Chief Jane Hardy is still reeling from the scandal that rocked her small-town department just as she took over for her retired father—the man who wrecked her life with one little lie. Now she’s finally been reunited with her presumed-dead fifteen-year-old son, Will, and his father, documentarian Reid Dixon.
When a murder aboard the Gulf Coast oil platform Zeus exposes an environmental terrorist’s plot to flood Mobile Bay with crude oil, Jane and Reid must put their feelings for each other aside and work together to prevent the looming sabotage.
When the terrorist puts Will’s life on the line, protecting him could be the common ground Jane and Reid need . . . until ghosts from the past threaten to ruin their fragile relationship for good.
Jane has plenty of reasons to run. But what if she stays?

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Early in Coble's convoluted sequel to One Little Lie, high school principal Ruby McDonald tells Jane Hardy, the police chief of Pelican Harbor, Ala., that her son, Keith, a worker on a Gulf oil platform, is missing. Ruby shares a copy of an email Keith sent her two days earlier saying he believes he's in danger and urging her to go see Chief Hardy. He adds, "I think an attack on the oil rig is being planned. Terrorists maybe, but I'm not sure who is behind the plot." Since finding a missing platform worker isn't Jane's jurisdiction, she suggests consulting Homeland Security. Meanwhile, Jane reunites with her ex-boyfriend, filmmaker Reid Dixon, who's the father of her 15-year-old son, Will. Since Homeland Security won't pursue the case without a body, Jane and Reid investigate on their own. The stakes rise when an assassin targets Will in an attempt to dissuade Jane and Reid from their quest. Too many characters and their backstories slow the action, but readers will care enough about Jane and company to stick with their story to the end. Series fans will eagerly anticipate the third and final installment.

Another great book
Once again, a book with well developed characters - flaws and all. In this one, Jane is still working to forgive so many things in her past while Reid is patient and caring as he gives her the freedom to work through the details at jer pwm pace. Lots of action and suspense with tender moments as well. A clean book to read and just enough clues to keep you trying to figure out the ending. Can’t wait for the next book with more of Jane, Reid and Will.
Keep your eyes open and make note of every detail!
Did this mean the alarm Keith raised was credible?
The author has once again written a book that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I managed to shorten a few nails in that time as well. Book 1 in the Pelican Harbor series laid some of the groundwork for this story, but one can certainly enjoy this one without that history. After all, non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat regardless.
Police Chief Jane Hardy is a master at solving crime - but will this one be too much for her? Blackmail, threats, kidnapping and murder are just a few of the incidents she must deal with all the while trying to find the perpetrator(s). Will those closest and most important to her escape unscathed?

WHAT IF SHE STAYS?
TWO REASONS TO RUN (The Pelican Harbor Series Book 2) is even more fast paced and filled with much more heart racing excitement than Book 1! Author Colleen Coble definitely ups the ante on grabbing on grabbing her readers attention early and keeping it until the final sentence is read. Book 2 starts exactly where Book 1 ends. Chief Jane Hardy is still coming to grips with an elaborate scheme to frame her father, the former Sheriff of Pelican Harbor. That was only the beginning of the mysteries that were unraveled in Book 1. She is now reunited with her presumed dead15 year old son Will and his father, famous documentarian Reid Bechtol.
I particularly enjoy this series because the fictional setting is based on an area that I am very familiar with. As a reader, I always draw mental pictures of places and characters in my mind as I read. This time I do not have to as I know EXACTLY what the setting looks like! Also, when the setting in a small town, it seems as if the town seems to become a character in its on right. This setting is on the Mobile Bay and the mystery involves a murder on the oil platform Zeus. As the investigation begins, things quickly begin to not add up. One of Pelican Harbors native sons is the victim and he managed to leave some clues to a serious environmental threat that is looming. Only now he is missing, presumed dead, no body found yet but the time is ticking according to the information he managed to sneak out.
From this point on, Coble takes readers on an edge of your seat adventure that involves such things as: being ordered to stand down by Homeland Security even when disagreeing with their assessment, deep diving under an oil rig, being challenged by everyone, everywhere that there is no threat but continuing investigating anyway, realizing your son is in danger and having to put him under protection. Jane has a plethora of reasons to run. But what if she stays? The ending is one of the greatest of all times! You will be spent as you read the final page! This is one of my favorite series!
