Publisher Description
From the author of the New York Times and international bestseller Unfu*k Yourself Gary John Bishop presents a no-holds-barred guide to breaking through our cycles of self-sabotage to get what we want out of life.
In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop told us it was time to stop making excuses—to recognize and take responsibility for the negative self-talk holding us back.
In Stop Doing That Sh*t, he builds on that message, teaching us how to stop self-sabotaging behavior. Bishop explains how our destructive cycles come down to the way that we’re wired. He then identifies different types of people and the ways we fu*k ourselves over: We can’t save money. We land in the same type of toxic relationship. We’re stuck in a rut at work. Analyzing why we act the way we do, including what our common grenades are that blow up our lives, Bishop then shows how we can interrupt the cycle and stop self-sabotaging our lives.
Written in the same in your face style as Unfu*k Yourself, Stop Doing that Sh*t will help us get in touch with our psychological machinery so we learn to interrupt negative thoughts and behavior before they start, allowing us to give our attention to something else, and start to find success in the areas we thought we never could.
We can take back our lives. We may have fu*ked up in the past, but Stop Doing That Sh*t will show us how to break the patterns in order to live the lives we yearn to have.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The bestselling author of Unfu*k Yourself cements his status as a straight-shooting life coach with Stop Doing That Sh*t. Using his endearingly gruff delivery and trademark salty language, Gary John Bishop presses us to look honestly at how we undermine ourselves and become our own worst enemies. With prompts like “If you keep living this way, where’s it all headed?,” Bishop’s process can lead to emotional places. But once we started identifying our patterns and assumptions, his step-by-step approach helped major personal changes feel surprisingly manageable. The audiobook’s bite-size chapters make it the perfect listen for a lunchtime confidence boost.

To L.A. and Back
I went on a layover to L.A. with my wife who is flight attendant for a major airline here in Canada. I was in my normal negative self-talk mode all the way to the airport. I was seething about something.....something that never goes away. I could really never identify what it was. My attitude sabotaged my relationship with my wife and my children all the time. I was never mad at them, but whatever "the shadow" or the sub conscience was regurgitation in my head all day brought me to a final moment of I can't take this anymore. I had success and I have a wonderful life but why am I so miserable?
Just as the flight was boarding I randomly wandered into a bookstore kioske and saw the book. I read the first few pages and I thought "where have you been?". I immediately bought it and read it on the way there and on the way back.
Mr.Bishop has done a beautiful job of explaining what is going on, and how to identify and deal with what sabotages my emotions everyday. It's revolutionary in my mind. Maybe we have known for along time now what the sub conscience is and what it can do, but Gary presented it in a way I could really relate to.
Don't hesitate to buy this if you feel your inner shadow blocking your view from a happier place in life. It is drastically changing mine.
