Meanwhile in present-day London, aspiring historian Caroline Parcewell spends her tenth wedding anniversary alone, running from her own demons. When she stumbles upon a clue to the unsolved apothecary murders that haunted London two hundred years ago, her life collides with the apothecary’s in a stunning twist of fate—and not everyone will survive.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
As the characters in this brilliant historical drama know all too well, society has rarely allowed women to be powerful—instead, they’ve had to be deadly. Newly heartbroken and betrayed, the novel’s heroine, Nella, turns her apothecary business toward a darker purpose, secretly concocting poisons to help women free themselves from the vile, abusive men in their lives. But when a 12-year-old girl walks into Nella’s shop, she threatens to send the whole enterprise crashing down. Sarah Penner smartly jumps back and forth in time between 1790s London and the modern era, where a historian named Caroline is discovering the high-stakes tension of Nella’s story. A trio of narrators give Penner’s characters strong, empowering voices and really make us feel the heartache and sadness they go through. Brilliantly interwoven with both dark themes of guilt and revenge and uplifting messages of friendship and hope, The Lost Apothecary is hard to stop listening to…and even harder to stop thinking about.
Customer Reviews
It was okay.
The book was okay. Well written, but not terribly exciting like I hoped.
