Now a musical adaptation!
In this delightful companion novel to Off the Page, #1 New York Times bestselling authors Jodi Picoult and her daughter and cowriter, Samantha van Leer, present a novel filled with romance, adventure, and humor in a story you’ll never forget.
What happens when happily ever after…isn’t?
Delilah is a bit of a loner who prefers spending her time in the school library with her head in a book—one book in particular. Between the Lines may be a fairy tale, but it feels real. Prince Oliver is brave, adventurous, and loving. He really speaks to Delilah.
And then one day Oliver actually speaks to her. Turns out, Oliver is more than a one-dimensional storybook prince. He’s a restless teen who feels trapped by his literary existence and hates that his entire life is predetermined. He’s sure there’s more for him out there in the real world, and Delilah might just be his key to freedom.
A romantic and charming story, this companion novel to Off the Page will make every reader believe in the fantastical power of fairy tales.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Prolific and bestselling author Picoult teams up with her teenage daughter to pen a clever YA romance about the magical relationship between a loner and her fictional "Prince Charming." Imagine 15-year-old Delilah McPhee's surprise when she starts to have a conversation with Prince Oliver, the hero of a fairy tale she adores. From Oliver she learns that characters in a story lead very different lives when a book is shut in Oliver's "reality," the story's villain is actually a butterfly aficionado, and Oliver has no interest in his betrothed, Seraphima. Elements from Picoult's other novels alternating character viewpoints with distinguishing fonts, snappy chapter endings are present, and the story is peppered with pop culture references to The Hunger Games, the Kindle Fire, and the X-Men, as well as comic relief in the form of characters like a talking horse that thinks it has a weight problem. The reason given for Delilah's obsession with the fairy tale like her, Oliver grew up without a father is weak, but that's unlikely to trouble readers who will be swept up by the romantic premise. Ages 12 up.

Between The Lines
I LOVED this book. I've read it twice already! I'm in grade 11, so I'm a bit above the targeted age, but even after I finished the book, I caught myself thinking about it as I went about my daily life. Oliver is every girl's Prince Charming, and the fact that he is trapped inside a book and she is trapped outside added so much to their story of forbidden love! I found that Delilah was me in fictional form, and that has never happened before. I could rant about this book for hours, to anyone who would listen.
Not for late teens
I just finished reading this book after my mom bought it for me for Christmas. While it was good, it wasn't great. I love Jodi's novels however I was disappointed with this one. I am in grade 11 and I found it way too childish more for age 12. It was kind or repetitive and boring but I finished it and I was satisfied with the ending.
AMAZING
This book was so amazing, I couldn't put it down! It has a fun and exciting twist on modern day fairy tales and is the story of a forbidden love between Oliver, a fictional character that wants nothing more than to leave the margins of his book and Delilah, a misunderstood teenager. Best book ever.
