Publisher Description

Doel is a village in the Belgian province of East-Flanders, near the city of Antwerp and the border with the Netherlands. It's situated next to a nuclear power plant on one side and the Antwerp harbour on the other side. There has been a village here since the Middle Ages, but in the 1960s, plans emerged to expand the harbour, which would mean the end of the village of Doel. In 1910 there were 2100 inhabitants, which has dropped to just 188 (official) locals in 2010. There is still a regular bus service, and Doel still has 2 pubs (of which one is situated in the windmill) for some of the 120 inhabitants (as of 2012, legal and illegal) and weekend tourists.

Today Doel is still there, though more like a ghost town, waiting on death row.
