The Republic has fractured. The war that began on Helios has spread to other worlds, all seeking independence. Wanting to preserve itself, the Republic as declared war against all dissenting worlds.

Dakota Allerson has spent the last year on the run, avoiding the war and keeping his identity and abilities as a seer a secret. When he joins a transportation crew, he thinks it will just be another job, but the captain has suspicions about her new hire and the jobs aren't exactly legal.

On Dionysus, Emperor Rowland must decide whether to remain loyal to the Republic or follow the rest of the Prospero System by joining the Dissenters. When the High Lord calls for a Peace Summit, a possible end to the war, Rowland and Cantara travel to Novatera, hoping to solidify their loyalty. But with Myrddin lurking in the shadows and Rowland's past returning to haunt him, it will be easier said than done.
