Uninspired
I highly recommend the first 11 books of the Evidence series. Unfortunately this series closer is not up to the same standards.
The writer hasn’t made a secret of it that readers have been begging her for years to tell the story of JT and Alexandra, and that their story was never her priority. This book feels like it was written to finally get the readers off her back, and not because she had an enticing story to tell. Too much time is spent on filling in their backstory and on reunions with the many couples from the other books, and not enough on good dialogue, character development and a complex mystery that usually drives the story. The main thing that really got me is that the guy who really -and I mean REALLY - hates children (it’s one of his main characteristics), takes one look at his ex’s toddler and is suddenly ready to be a father. I know as a writer you want your main character to be likeable, but this 180 character change feels very forced. I will not be rereading this one.
