Widely considered The Great American Novel, and often remembered for its epic film version, Gone With the Wind explores the depth of human passions with an intensity as bold as its setting in the red hills of Georgia. This is the tale of Scarlett O’Hara, the spoiled, manipulative daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, who arrives at young womanhood just in time to see the Civil War forever change her way of life. A sweeping story of tangled passion and courage, in the pages of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell brings to life the unforgettable characters that have captured readers for over seventy years.

Long but Good
This was my Grandmother's favorite book so was always curious to read it. Super engaging with complex, deep characters. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's America's War & Peace, but I can understand the comparisons. Probably could have been edited down a few hundred pages, and it's strange how some major characters virtually disappear for the entire book only to be flushed out (somewhat) in the last few chapters. Never boring and written beautifully. The racism is repugnant but reflects the reality of the period, it was interesting to see the bigots' point of view as you'd never see something like that written in this day and age. The author got first hand accounts from veterans as she was growing up so that lends a certain authenticity as well.
So yes, worth it if you have the attention span for it. I'm curious to watch the film again now.
