"Into the Whirlwind is a delight. Elizabeth Camden shows remarkable ability to breathe life into nineteenth-century Chicago and its people. If you are a fan of historical romantic suspense, I cannot recommend this book or this author too highly."-Davis Bunn, bestselling author of Rare Earth

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Set against the backdrop of the 1871 Chicago fire, this glimpse by Camden (The Rose of Winslow Street) into the past is a sweet, emotion-filled romance to warm the heart and touch the soul. As the sole proprietor of the watchmaking and stewardship enterprise begun by her father, Mollie Knox must not only manage the business end of the exclusive manufacturing venture, but also care for the company's employees, most of whom are disabled Civil War veterans. In the wake of the blaze, Mollie must team with Zack Kazmarek a Polish dockworker-turned-lawyer who has intimidated her for years to find a way to save herself, her adopted family, and her business. When a figure from Mollie's past appears, difficulties arise all around. While a light read, the cast of characters is varied and lovingly detailed, colorful and bursting with life. Subtle references to faith are unevenly woven throughout the simple story, and some of them are too subtle. Cleverly disguised life lessons balance the uncomplicated storytelling.

A great author
I have read quite a few of her books and I enjoyed everyone of them. The true to life history in all the books was great, they were things I never knew about, and am not to soon forget, it certainly made think, why could not our study of history in school been that interesting. If it had I think would have gotten a better mark. Thanks Elizabeth Camden for your wonderful works of art!!
Exceeds my expectations. Loved it!
I loved the characters, the setting, the whole package deal. Elizabeth Camden did a wonderful job with her cast of quirky, imperfect but compelling characters. She obviously did her research in regards to the Chicago Fire and her descriptions both of it and of life immediately following it for the survivors was fascinating.
I loved the character of Mollie, how she has such a need for order and structure and security but ever so slowly is able to learn to go with whatever life throws at you. She seemed so very real, a person I could relate to. Zack is so very opposite, very impulsive and headstrong and this causes tension as you can imagine.
This is by far my favourite book by Elizabeth Camden and I am eagerly awaiting whatever she writes next.
