Overwhelmed by tragedy, a woman desperately tries to save her marriage in award-winning author Jennifer Hillier's Little Secrets, a riveting novel of psychological suspense.
All it takes to unravel a life is one little secret...
Marin had the perfect life. Married to her college sweetheart, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. They're admired in their community and are a loving family—until their world falls apart the day their son Sebastian is taken.
A year later, Marin is a shadow of herself. The FBI search has gone cold. The publicity has faded. She and her husband rarely speak. She hires a P.I. to pick up where the police left off, but instead of finding Sebastian, she learns that Derek is having an affair with a younger woman. This discovery sparks Marin back to life. She's lost her son; she's not about to lose her husband, too. Kenzie is an enemy with a face, which means this is a problem Marin can fix.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Psychological-thriller master Jennifer Hillier pulls us deep inside the psyche of a woman confronting a cascade of horrors. It’s been a year since Marin’s young son went missing at Seattle’s Pike Place Market. She’s still picking up the pieces of her life, but they just won’t fit back together. After the FBI gives up, she launches her own investigation, unearthing chilling facts that make it clear she can’t trust anyone—even those she loves. Could finding her child mean sacrificing her closest relationships and even her sanity? We love how Hillier jumps into the perspectives of other characters, including the regret-riddled woman who’s been having an affair with Marin’s husband. We were prepared for a twist ending, but does that mean we guessed what it would be? No. We definitely did not see that coming.
Celebrity hairstylist Marin Machado, the heroine of this diabolically plotted psychological thriller of lust, obsession, greed, and betrayal from Thriller Award winner Hillier (Jar of Hearts), believes she's hit bottom during the 16 months since her four-year-old son was snatched while they were Christmas shopping at a Seattle farmers' market something for which she can't stop blaming herself, nor can her entrepreneur husband of almost 20 years, Derek. But that's before the PI Marin hired after the case went cold shares her chance but devastating discovery that Derek's having an affair with a much younger woman, catapulting Marin into an even darker circle of hell. Following the initial shock of the revelation, the furious Marin feels empowered, almost exhilarated. But her rage also threatens to propel this sympathetic protagonist into a rash, potentially catastrophic decision, encouraged by her best friend and onetime boyfriend, an ex-con, who has his own devious agenda. Though a few of the twists down the frenetic home stretch seem forced, until then Hillier sustains a captivating double helix of duplicity. Hillier remains an author to watch. 75,000-copy announced first printing.

A gripping thriller filled with intense emotion!
Jennifer Hillier is a new to me author. I have seen some really great reviews for her past books and couldn't wait to dive into her newest one, Little Secrets. I knew she was a mystery/thriller author but other than that I went in completely blind. I was hooked from the first page. The writing is suspenseful, gripping and filled with so much intense emotion. Marin is mom to 4 year old, Sebastian and wife, to husband Derek. The book begins in a Christmas Market where she and Sebastian are doing some last minute Christmas shopping when Marin's world is turned upside down in an instant and Sebastian is abducted right from underneath her. Since the abduction a year has passed and Marin has been going through the motions of life. She blames herself for her son's kidnapping and is feeling disconnected from her husband. Little Secrets is definitely an appropriate title! One secret is revealed after another to keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing where the story would turn or go next. I was stunned and reeling when it all came together in the end. A fantastic must read thriller! 5 STARS.
