Publisher Description
"Main Street" is and amazing book that tells the tale of a big-city girl who marries a physician and settles in a small town in the Midwest, only to fall victim to the narrow-mindedness and unimaginative natures of the town's residents.

Main Street
Brilliant and forward-thinking beyond belief. Stunning (for the time) insight and disparagement of a small town none of us would ever (then) want to live in or (now) tolerate. Subtlety of characterization is very much (oh, a century or so ;) ahead of its time.
Sadly - and this may be 21st-century haste - I feel there is far, far too much prose (you know, when your fingers are wildly flipping iPad pages). The ending - for all of Lewis' desire to turn the world upside down - is as pat and slick and predictable as the early-20th century popular magazine literature he (multiple times) mocks. Well worth a "literary" read: just don't expect after 500 pp. or so - to lunge to your feet for an ovation.
