“Mother of Mars” is Another Success
This book is fantastic; and every bit as good as the first in the series. As we would want, the chief characters are all back, along with their quirky and fascinating qualities. Plus, there are new players in the game all bringing their own new quirks and new skills. The miracle is that one even starts to sympathize (briefly) with the old protagonists. We even feel sorry for one of them, and then clap our hands with wicked joy as he finds a new and more consuming motivation. And like the first book we get a glimpse into an array of futuristic technological wonders (and their dirty undersides as well). We get an inspired vision of life on Mars, the dream accomplished, and the failures, along with tons of fascinating details that all make perfect sense. Does D.M. Pruden have a crystal ball? This book is full of the same witty repartee as the first, that makes one laugh out loud. And with a non-stop parade of politics within politics and intrigues within intrigues, such a richly populated environment, and a storyline that keeps one gobbling up each page, it is another real treat from this author.
