During his early years, Zola wrote numerous short stories and essays, four plays and three novels. Among his early books was Contes à Ninon, published in 1864. Some novels became the basis of films. His novel Les Mystères de Marseille appeared as a serial in 1867.

Nana is a novel by famous French naturalist author Emile Zola published in 1880, which became the ninth installment in the 20-volume Les Rougon-Macquart series. Nana is the main character of this story, very beautiful woman wholly devoted to herself and she employs herself as a beautiful flower. It is her power. Everyone enjoys her beauty and understands it's a human condition to be so. Story resembles the elements of our society today and perhaps we will not be able to escape from limited pleasure even realizing that someday it will come to the end. But it doesn't matter. Probably the main idea: we are all human and we should live and enjoy till the end.
