Taylor's debut, a derivative and overly complicated thriller, introduces Pike Logan, the titular rough man, who's one of a band of secret government warriors known as the Taskforce, the operational arm of Project Prometheus, whose presidentially mandated mission is to hunt down terrorists and eliminate them by any means necessary. A personal disaster sidelines Pike, but he gets reluctantly dragged back into the fray after rescuing Jennifer Cahill, a student at the College of Charleston (S.C.), from two mysterious hit men. Meanwhile, in Guatemala, Jennifer's professor uncle has discovered an ancient Mayan weapon of mass destruction, which two Arab terrorists steal and plan to use to start a war in the Mideast. Taylor needs to dial back the body count and concentrate on a more original setup and cast of characters if he ever expects to compete with the other Brad (Thor) on the international thriller playing field. 5-city author tour.

Awesome 1st book!
At first I thought it was all in first person, but it’s not at all, just the main character. Which is actually pretty easy to get used to.
Lots of sections where I couldn’t put the book down.
Cartoonish narration
This one might be better to read. The narration of authority figures is over-the-top and pretentiously gruff. The operators sound too emotional, like petulant children speaking though permanently pouted lips; and, attempts to convey coolness under pressure sound hilariously overdone without any real gravitas. IMO, authentic military speech patterns would have been a better fit than the manga/anime style for “One Rough [cartoonish] Man”.
Amazing Author
The review that "Publishers weekly" did on this book shows just how little they know ... This book is well written , on point, technically accurate and a page turner from the word go .. the story line is captivating and leaves you wanting more ... Brad Taylor will prove to be one of the greats along side Brad Thor, David Baldacci and the Dearly missed Vince Flynn .... I wait anxiously for the next release and be sure I have the day clear for another phenomenal adventure
