Second Try, Different Rules

When Kara ran away, heartbroken and terrified, she thought her marriage was beyond repair. Little did she know a world war would teach her strength, resilience, and empathy for those around her. Matthew Douglas was a product of his time. He’d been sent to boarding school as a child, his parents only on the periphery of his life. There were reasons why his father had kept him separate, although he hadn’t known why until he was an adult, and then it was too late. In twenty-four hours, he’d lost everything. The most precious had been his marriage. With nothing left to live for, he’d joined the Army. War hadn’t been declared yet, but the government was preparing for it. It was his luck to be taken under the stewardship of two officers, who stepped in and taught him how to be a man.
