The Weeping One

This is a retelling of the folktale La Llorona. in this version one horrible evening a desperate mother murders a child so that her dead daughter may cross over to the other side. This telling also includes a traditional version in which a mother kills her children to take revenge on her cheating husband. I heard this story frequently as a young child and there are many versions ... all frightening and all meant to keep children away from the rivers at night.
