APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Even if you’re hundreds of miles from the nearest beach, an Elin Hilderbrand book can make you smell salt air and sunblock. When her husband, Russell, died suddenly, Iowa housewife Irene Steele was shocked to learn he owned a posh villa in the U.S. Virgin Islands—not to mention that he had a second family living there. In this steamy romantic thriller, Irene settles in to the tropical idyll, determined to put the pieces of her life back together no matter how many unpleasant truths she uncovers along the way. We loved Hilderbrand’s lush descriptions of the island of St. John almost as much as her colorful characters, including grizzled old mariner Huck and worldly, conflicted bar hostess Ayers. You don’t need to have read the first two books in the Paradise series—though they’re as much sudsy fun as this one—to enjoy seeing how the plucky, captivating Irene weathers this storm.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hilderbrand wraps up her Paradise series (after What Happens in Paradise) with this excellent story of secret lives and second chances. Things begin with Irene Steele's husband, Russell, dying in a helicopter crash. Russell was ostensibly on a business trip to the Virgin Islands when he died; however, Irene learns that Russell led a double life. He spent part of his time with Irene in Iowa a loving husband and goofy father to their two adult sons and part of his time in St. John, where he had a longtime girlfriend and a 12-year-old daughter, Maia. After the FBI suspects Russell's death was the result of foul play, Irene and her two sons, Baker and Cash, uproot their lives and move to St. John to find answers. The soapy setup has all the classic whodunit elements, but the dreamy island setting and St. John's charming, quirky residents are the real draw. In the island's bighearted community, Irene, Baker, and Cash each find a chance at love. While the sailing is not always smooth (their relationships are complicated by Russell's legacy, and hurricane season looms) Irene finally gets some resolution and enjoys island life. This low-stakes, sun-drenched drama is pure escapist fun.

The Paradise Trilogy
Love the trilogy, could not stop reading. The characters were real and easy to love. Bad things happen to good people but they survive.
Loved all 3
Couldn’t put this series down, and loved how it all came together after the twists, turns & heartbreaks. Beautifully written.
A Trilogy?
No. This should have been one book. I enjoyed the characters and the breezy plot. I did not enjoy paying for three books that should have been one.
