This was a deeply emotional story
Luke had always been a daredevil and that transitioned easily into a career as a stuntman. But that also made it very easy for his more reckless impulses to get the best of him during the darkest period after his wife’s death. As an author, Brielle spends a lot of time living in her head and rewriting reality to fit the way she would have it. This trait was crazy-making to me when we first started getting to know her, because it felt like she couldn’t see the truth while she was so caught up in the fantasy. Luke’s also stuck in a world of his own making, however his is a darker more tortured one. This was a deeply emotional story. It takes a look at a couple different kinds of fears and how we deal with them. And the ways we avoid dealing with them, too. I found it very inspiring to watch this pair as they, kind of accidentally, got vulnerable with one another and faced some things they’d been avoiding in their lives. With every new book, I’m falling deeper and deeper in love with Candlewood Falls. I can’t wait to see what the next books bring us.
