A Midsummer Night's Dream A Midsummer Night's Dream

Beschreibung des Verlags

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a timeless romantic comedy that interweaves love, magic, and theatrical mischief into one of the Bard’s most beloved plays. Set against the backdrop of ancient Athens and a mystical forest ruled by fairies, the story explores the folly, confusion, and joy of love in all its forms.

The play begins with preparations for the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta. At the same time, Hermia, a young Athenian woman, defies her father's command to marry Demetrius, as she loves another—Lysander. The young lovers flee into the forest, pursued by Demetrius and Helena, Hermia’s friend, who pines for Demetrius. Unbeknownst to them, the woods are home to the fairy king and queen—Oberon and Titania—whose quarrels and magical interventions set off a cascade of enchanting mishaps.

Oberon’s mischievous servant, Puck (or Robin Goodfellow), uses a magical flower to manipulate affections, causing characters to fall in love with the wrong person—including Titania, who awakens to fall madly in love with a weaver named Bottom, whose head has been transformed into that of a donkey. Meanwhile, a group of bumbling craftsmen rehearses a play to be performed at the Duke’s wedding, unwittingly becoming entangled in the fairy world’s chaos.

As night turns to dawn, enchantments unravel, lovers are reunited correctly, and the worlds of mortals and fairies reconcile in joy and celebration. The play concludes with multiple marriages, a whimsical performance by the amateur actors, and a closing epilogue that invites the audience to treat the entire tale as a fanciful dream.
