Abandoned

Mary is a timid young girl living in the coastal town of Hampton, California. Her overprotective mother keeps her confined to the attic, safe from ghosts and monsters. With Mary's father mysteriously gone and a shadowy figure named Laura barely spoken of, Mary has grown accustomed to the darkness.

But everything changes when an abandoned rabbit stirs a spark of courage in Mary, prompting her to defy her mother's strict rules. This newfound bravery quickly leads her into trouble, as her cruel brother sells her to a pirate disguised as Santa Claus. Believing herself abandoned like her rabbit, Mary is forced to start anew under a different identity.

Though her new name is inspired by a fairy tale, her reality is far from magical. As she navigates her challenging new life, Mary learns invaluable lessons from unexpected places, including from a wise talking cat who offers guidance in an alley. These lessons become crucial as she faces trials that test her resilience and determination.
