Written more than 60 novels that were published in most prestigious magazines, E.D.E.N. Southworth became one of the most-reading writers among women readers across the nation. 

“The Hidden Hand” (or Capitola the Madcap) is a serial novel, first published in 1859l. The main protagonist of series is Capitola Black, an orphan and tomboyish, whose origin is unknown. She finds herself in a myriad of adventures, either of which, on the author’s words, came from real life.
