Agnes Elizabeth Jones, born in Ireland in 1832, she was asked by Florence Nightingale if she would take over the running of the infirmary at the Liverpool Workhouse in 1865. Writing on the 4 February 1867, Agnes wrote: I sometimes wonder if there is a worse place on earth, but I never regret coming and I never wish to give it up.
